Glass Artist

Artist Statement

Before Hurricane Katrina, I had been working on the Alluvium series , which featured cast iron and glass pieces that explored South Louisiana’s vulnerability to subsidence, storms and catastrophic flooding. The broken house and dead branch were recurring themes of the series. With Katrina and the flooding that followed, I made the easy decision to abandon this line of work. I had been making my cast iron elements with metal sculptor Corral Lambert, but her home and studio were destroyed. In addition, the last thing I wanted to subject people to were more broken houses and dead trees. I chose, instead, to focus on work that was colorful, abstract, intriguing and optimistic. The tube sculptures are the result of these efforts.
